GetResponse has been around since 1998, making it one of the oldest email marketing platforms still active. But unlike some legacy tools that have stagnated, GetResponse has reinvented itself multiple times. Today it positions itself as an all-in-one marketing platform, bundling email marketing, automation, landing pages, webinars, and even a website builder into a single package. We have been using GetResponse for client campaigns and our own marketing for over 18 months. This review shares what we have learned.

What Is GetResponse?

At its core, GetResponse is an email marketing platform. But calling it just an email tool would be underselling it significantly. The current version includes:

Key Features Deep Dive

#### Email Marketing The email editor uses a drag-and-drop builder that strikes a good balance between flexibility and ease of use. You can start from scratch, use one of 150+ templates, or code your own HTML. Templates cover common use cases: newsletters, promotions, announcements, and product launches. The editor supports dynamic content blocks that show different content to different segments, mobile preview, and A/B testing for subject lines, content, and send times. On higher plans, you can test up to five variations simultaneously. Deliverability has been strong in our experience. Across our campaigns over 18 months, we have consistently seen inbox placement rates between 95% and 97%, which is above the industry average. #### Marketing Automation GetResponse's automation builder is the feature that sets it apart from Mailchimp and other entry-level tools. Cons

  • Email template designs need refreshing. While functional, many templates look dated compared to Mailchimp's polished options.
  • Free plan is very limited. With only 500 contacts and no automation, it is essentially a trial.
  • Interface can feel busy. The breadth of features means more menus, more options, and more clicks to find what you need.
  • Learning curve for automation. Building effective workflows takes time and experimentation.
  • Website builder is basic. It works for simple sites, but do not expect it to replace WordPress or a proper website platform.
  • Customer support varies. Live chat is responsive, but email support can take 24-48 hours.

Our Verdict

GetResponse is one of the best values in email marketing for small businesses. Its combination of solid email marketing, capable automation, landing pages, and unique webinar hosting makes it a strong all-in-one choice that can replace multiple subscriptions. The platform is not perfect. Template designs need updating, the interface can be overwhelming, and the free plan is too limited to be useful. But for the price, it delivers more functionality than almost any competitor.
